Welcome to La Porte’s New Community Hospital
Dear Community Members,
This is an exciting time for healthcare in La Porte as we prepare to build the future of healthcare right downtown. As we reflect upon the strong tradition of healthcare innovation in our community, we think about how exciting it must have been 50 years ago, when, on April 4, 1967, Ben Bortz announced plans to build the new $8 million La Porte Hospital. In 1972, La Porte Hospital opened its doors at its current location on Lincolnway.

Now, 45 years later, we are on the cusp of another exciting development, this time, a $125 million investment, and the largest update to the downtown La Porte architecture in decades. We are grateful for the support and input from community leaders, citizens, our own La Porte Hospital medical and healthcare staff and volunteers, Foundation members, and hospital board members, in choosing to rebuild La Porte Hospital at its current site.
On behalf of La Porte Hospital leadership and the local Board of Trustees, we hope you will find this site helpful and convenient and check back often as we share the progress of your new hospital. If you have questions, or would like to fact check something, send us a message and we will be happy to respond.
We look forward to keeping you updated.
